I rlly shouldt be messing with this stuff

ok. So in my almighty wisdom I decided to download danger kitten. I’m not a hacker or a troublemaker, just curious is all. So anyway it slowed everything to a crawl. When i tried to delete the jpg it said file was in use by another program so obviously it was a no go. I ran avast it had trojans and decompression bombs along with the regular program files that were listed. Avast took care of the trojans but when i when back to see if i could delete the jpg it wasnt there anymore. So I’m kind of relieved but at the same time kind of worried because I didnt get rid of the other file myself unless i did so unknowingly through Avast. Is there anyway i can make sure that the Dcompression bombs and the other files are gone for good? ???

Check your computer for Malware with

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
after install click update so you have latest database before scan
click the remove selected button to quarantine anything found
you may post the scan log here

@ the OP: decompression bombs are no malware…unless they contain some ;D…but they can be anything, it’s just how Avast call big archives too heavy to extract for scanning, nothing more.

lol Thanks

I suggest the general cleaning procedure for your peace of mind

  1. Clean your temporary files.
  2. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  3. Use MBAM (or SUPERantispyware or even Spyware Terminator) to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, it is better and safer to send the infected file(s) to quarantine (Chest), rather than simply deleting them.
  4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  5. Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  6. Clean your Hosts file (replacing it) with HostsMan tool.
  7. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  8. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
  9. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
