Ah ok, thank you. I had meant that the log file was very long to copy and paste, too long for one reply, so I was thinking about putting it in as an attachment instead but since I was requested to copy and paste it that was what I did but I am not sure if it is better or easier to review then I can certainly add the log file as an attachment. I like that the attachments show you how many times it has been downloaded.
Attaching is quicker, eh?
Hi,
Yes, please just attach the logs… It is much easier.

Yeah sorry about the super long posts there. I can go back and modify my previous posts and make it a file attachment, not sure if it matters though now.
I am waiting on OTL fix to run while I am using another system to type this. I closed MBAM before I ran the fix this time and I did not get the unexpected service termination of MBAM, but it seems that the system has frozen since the time clock has not moved since I started the OTL run ~ 15 minutes ago.
Also am I supposed to click on the LOP check and PURITY check box when I run the custom fix? I know it says not to check those for the 2nd run. OTL box is saying killing processes, do not interrupt, at the bottom, but everything is frozen.
Do you think it will help if I create a new user admin account and try to run the OTL fix from that profile?
Hi,
Sorry for the delays…boot to Safe Mode and then try to run the fix with OTL there.
Its ok you are donating your time here. I appreciate you guys trying to help me out once again.
I think the problem lies within WINDOWS operating system. I have a new desktop model (<3 months old) that does not even seem to want to print off my lovely KODAK printer, despite my efforts to update drivers, reinstall & remove the printer, and all the fun steps I have been dealing with Kodak customer service. This is not the system I have having my current virus issue with.
Well anyway I cannot boot into safe mode with my old laptop so I am not sure what else to try now but if my memory recalls correctly I had a similar problem like this before (surprise, right??) and last time I had to create a new user profile w/admin. priveleges to be able to run a fix, but I do not remember what I ran and I think last time I was still able to boot into safe mode, or at least I had loaded something onto the system that came on before windows booted up, but I do not remember the program name and it does not seem functional anymore anyway.
Hi,
I just want to clarify…are you able to boot to your computer at all now in either Normal or Safe Mode?
I am able to boot into normal mode but not able to boot into safe mode on my old dell laptop. I did not try to create another admin user yet to run the fix there bc my 3 month old lenovo desktop system was giving me a major problem. I could not log in to it, someone hacked my system and changed my admin password for me.
I am happy to say that I was able to burn software that I used to make .iso discs that I booted from, and was lucky enough that they were free and one worked without seeming to do any major damage to my desktop system. Linux is interesting to see in operation if you have never done so.
Lenovo - has me make a rescue backup cd of windows upon initial system start & doesn’t recommend me to use DVDs (I figured this out after cd #11 so I have 11 cds and one dvd for rescue) and it doesn’t mention anything about creating a password recovery disk. I did not even know I could do so until my pwd did not work & it was asking me for one…
Before this happened I had transferred some data/files between my netbook and my desktop. My netbook has been running poorly for many many months. I suspect someone installed some shady software like logmein when I let them borrow it to do check some exam scores.
I will try to mess with the old dell again this weekend but the good news is that I am officially over windows. It only took 15 years & countless malware trojan and virus infections over that time. I am happy to say I am getting a MACBOOK finally so hopefully I will not have these types of problems, but I do plan to keep working on the dell still at least since the boot into safe mode is still not working on it & I really probably should worry about my netbook more but I will save that for another thread. I will give it a shot again tomorrow w/the laptop. Thank you.
Hi,
Are you still with us?
Hi Jeff & everyone,
I hope you all had a lovely holiday weekend. Mine was eventful & I do have an update, thanks for your patience.
After uninstalling AVAST I installed a paid version of another antivirus, which found malware in my system after full scan & update. Unfortunately I do not know the name right now but it was considered ‘low threat’, I think it was a redirect virus, but I am uncertain of the name .
Still having problems. I turn on the laptop & get a blank black screen. This was happening before my first post but I thought it was related to the malware, since I was not able to boot into safe mode nor could I boot into bios. Upon start up I would not see the DELL welcome logo with the option for bios or setup, etc. & could not modify the boot sequence as I was hoping to boot from cd to try Windows repair as I had found my original WINDOWS OEM install disc.
I could not run check disk from windows, nor could I run msconfig, but I could run fsutil dirty query and sfc/scannow. THe dirty query did not generate anything but it seemed to run at least. The Sfc scan now told me “windows is missing required DLL Files, please insert your original windows disc” or something along this line, which I did. In fact I got that pop up about 15 times while sfc scan was running and I had to hit ‘retry’ since I had inserted the OEM Windows XP Home disc into the optical drive.
After SFC scan finished it seemed to finish completely. Then I decided to try to run checkdisck again, agreed to run on reboot, as I had before, and then attempted reboot. This time something failed finally and all I get is a black screen upon reboot, and it stays black.
I had WINDOWS RECOVERY CONSOLE on my system from a previous tech session (see below), and I remember before there was some sort of splash screen dialog & slight delay before windows started, but I have not seen that screen either for a long long time.
In regards to my final attempt at repair I removed the hard drive and used an 2.5 portable external storage system & attached the hard drive to my winxp desktop system, where I was able to run checkdisk finally. I choose ‘fix & repair errors automatically’ so I am uncertain if it found any errors, but it seemed to run to finish and afterward I checked & the drive did not need to be defragged.
After putting the drive back into my laptop all I get is the black screen. It sounds like the drive is trying to read but it is not doing anything. Before it did this and sometimes the screen was black for 15-20 seconds before windows loaded, now it is just black & it seems to be running hot.
I also attempted a ‘full power discharge’ by removing the battery and then removing the power adapter plug, hold the power button down for 30 seconds, then I reconnected the power adapter only and attempted to turn the system on, same symptom black screen.
I did recently put in a new lcd screen as the laptop took a tumble from the couch several months back when the lcd screen became damaged with lines all down it. I attempted to plug a functional external monitor into the laptop and boot up, but the monitor never showed anything.
I almost was able to access my data on hd using it as an external hard drive through my desktop winxp system. Unfortunately it is my main Admin account that says ‘access denied’ when I attempt to view files, which is odd because the other users on the hard drive all have passwords and one is also an admin user and I had no problem opening or viewing any of their files.
I suspect this to be a hardware failure. Does it sound like my motherboard to you? I forgot my previous registration info. & I did attempt to recover my password, but I forgot my old email address. I was able to locate these following threads of my previous problems that were posted here:
Avast boot scan not running from Safemode reboot, nothing works! OTS log posted. from 2011
KillAV.KI {TRJ} JS:FakeAV-K[TRJ], TRJ[GEN], avast not updatind, Sad But True from 2009
I am open to trying to swap out the board but I do not know who sells the best quality board that will work and that I will not be stuck with keeping in case the board is not the issue. Do you have any suggestions or know a good supplier you can recommend?
BTW I have to tell you I am not impressed with apple computer and their ill functional refurbed overprice machine they sent me & I promptly returned, but that is an another matter entirely & one you may not care to hear about. Lets just say I got a rotten apple.
My apologies for the long windedness of my reply here.
Hi,
I am not particularly tech savvy on the hardware side. I will see if I can get someone more so to look at your questions.
Hi there,
Its ok Jeff I appreciate your trying to help. I have decided to take it in for repairs but I will wait until I finish my final exams and I have some other business to attend to. I will come back and update you once I find out and get it fixed but I think that will not be for about a month or a month and a half.
Thanks again for everything. You guys (and gals) are all really great. Best wishes & safe travels.
Hi,
Ok thanks for letting me know. Good luck on your exams!
