I think Avast is blocking my browser. Can anyone help?

Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble I hope someone could help with.

I have Avast Free Antivirus version 11.2.2262, and a Win XP machine. I use Mozilla Firefox and I frequently get a Server Not Found error. If I keep trying it will eventually go through, and if I try the same site with Avast Safezone it will go through straight away. I tried turning off Avast webshield active protection and it seemed to fix the issue.

I’m not sure how to configure Avast to allow Firefox. Would someone be able to help?

Disable HTTPS-scanning in the web shield.

Run FireFox in safe-mode.
If that is working fine, it is very likely one of the add-ons you have installed that is causing the problem.

Try disabling Avast online security plugin.

Sweeping statement,might be better waiting for the original poster to confirm.
But I guess you have the knowledge to confirm already ?

Had the same problem intermittently for a while,disabling online security helped especially with web page opening speed.will try this as well thanks…

That seemed to help somewhat but it still does it.

Hi. When you say you disabled online security do you mean you turned the webshield off? Didn’t that leave you totally vulnerable? Or did you mean something else? Could you be more specific please?

Yes just the Firefox plugin,helped a lot for me disabling,hope you get it sorted :slight_smile:

That disables your online protection and certainly isn’t recommended.

The firefox plugin shows ticks against web results and blocks companies trying to track you.

Avast has its own inbuild black list database I guess.

Not sure it disables online protection.
