i think i have a virus - ransom still,

please can you help me. i have a packard bell windows vista x64 laptop.

last year we got the ransom virus, and i thought i got rid of it, but our internet conection is bad, and programmes i download will not load, files keep saying corrupt, and avast! free, will not update, manually, or automatically it keeps being very, very slow and then says package broken.

should i completely restore the pc?

i have had to completely restore the pc, and the antivirus still wont work, will not update, nothing, i am using the older version 4.5 i think ,it has a blue globe and that wont update either :frowning:

attach logs…i do not know where the logs are :-[ i am not a computer lover, all i know is the antivirus refuses to update, and i think it is causing trouble with the internet connexion. Even though i have completely restored the pc. if i cant update any antivirus then what?

i am trying to download the mbam cleaner from the logs to assist in cleaning malware, but it’s already frozen the pc once. when i tried to open it this morning, it said file corrupt, get a better copy…

the mbam antivirus scanner will not work, it says this (attached)

downloaded and actually able to use the OTL programme, it is scanning modules or something, i guess it will create a log i then attach here?

i dont know if this is different to what i already attached. i tried to do a screen capture of one of the avast scan logs but the file is too big and wont save as a log.

is this any help? i have not deleted anything yet, i’ll wait to see what you all say

u need to take actions and then attach the remaining logs…

is this any help too? the other scan rogue scanner seemed to have picked up 2 problems that says it is ok to delete but i am waiting until you say it is ok

just keep the aswmbr attachment intact

deleting the enteries in roguekiller is safe…then save the log and attach it

ah so when it detechs the 2 problems (the rogue killer scan) i can delete what it finds? ok, cool, *pops off to do it, then il reboot and come back

thank you ;D, what iv done is edelete from rogue killer, rebooted, uninstalled 4.8 avast! rebooted, and then trying to install the latest avast! which is including google chrome which is taking forever, ::slight_smile:

This is part of the problem.

I think the first thing to do is totally uninstall Avast 4 and replace it with Avast 7
Then totally uninstall MBAM and get a new copy

To your desktop download the following programmes :
aswClear http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Avast 7 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
MBAMClean http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-clean.exe
MBAM http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4716-malwarebytes-anti-malware.html

Disconnect from the internet and then go to control panel > programs and features
Uninstall MBAM
Uninstall Avast

Let the system reboot as required

Then boot to safe mode by rebooting the computer and presiing F8
At the menu select safe mode

Run aswClear
Run MBAM cleaner

Reboot to normal mode and install Avast 7
After the reboot then install MBAM

Having done that then update windows to SP1

Then let me know what problems you are still having. If at any stage you hit a snag then let me know and I will walk you through it
