Hi, just as a follow up, things have been going pretty well, and then, the computer started slowing down again. Ran an Avast scan, which I can furnish here.
Other things have come up, which prevented me from posting as quickly as I wanted to.
I would LOVE to do some more optimizing, but I’m wondering if someone could take a look at the results of this scan.
Also, I have some things in a lockbox. If I run an anti-virus scan do I run the hazard of losing that information?
Sorry to be so late on this.
Could you run a fresh OTL scan please. Delete the current copy and download the new version
Download OTL to your Desktop
[*]Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/OTL_Main_Tutorial.gif
[*]Select All Users
[*]Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
netsvcs
BASESERVICES
%SYSTEMDRIVE%*.exe
/md5start
services.*
explorer.exe
winlogon.exe
Userinit.exe
svchost.exe
qmgr.dll
/md5stop
CREATERESTOREPOINT
[*]Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
[*]When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
[*]Post both logs
Hi, Essexboy, thanks so much for responding so quickly.
When the logs were finished the only log that I found was the OTL text.
I shall submit for your interest.
Intriguing aswmbr is showing zero access yet OTL is not
Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems
Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot
Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Files
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\{96b652b2-0846-e36d-e368-a3a228fab0ad}
:Commands
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[Reboot]
[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.
THEN
Could you re-run Combofix, allow it to update if requested
Essexboy, my biggest apologies, but I think I goofed somewhere. When I entered the text into the box the scan progressed, and then just SAT there.
did I miss something?
Was it supposed to do this?
The application stopped, and I had the color of my desktop, but no icons, etc.
Thanks so much in advance.
Not a problem there is a minor glitch with OTL that is now been fixed. So stop OTL and delete it from your desktop
How is the computer behaving now any weird problems ?
Sorry it’s taken me so long. Things came up where I needed to use the computer for other stuff… so didn’t get back to you as soon as I probably should have.
system is a bit slow on start up. I have the ghosts back, but I consider those to be part of the OTL, I just can’t find that tool you used to get rid of the ghosts.
I’ve been trying to do about four tasks all at once, which, as you can probably foresee, is quite difficult.
Do you recommend running an Iobit scan and THEN an Avast, or vice versa?
sorry about the delays.
S.
Hi.
Trying to continue the work that I’d been doing previously. Computer keeps going into a “not responding” mode.
Going to see if Windows updates can help get me past that.
Also, I have the ghosts, which are keeping me from using the default printer.
Do I really need to reinstall printer software?
I swear I’d just printed something out three days ago.
Thanks so much in advance, Essexboy.
Lets remove the ghost files, yes reinstall the printer
[]Download OTC to your desktop and run it
[]Click Yes to beginning the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
[*]You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. Choose Yes.
THEN
Download and run farbar service scanner
http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Farbar/FSS-1.jpg
Tick “All” options.
Press “Scan”.
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.
Hello, EssexBoy, did as you have recommended:
** ghosts have been exorcised;
** FSS log attached below.
Did you have to face a lot of Hurricane Sandy?
Printer was re-installed successfully. ![]()
Should I run Iobit to optimize?
Thanks,
ShadowS.
Nope, here in the UK we will see the remnants in about two or three weeks ;D
How is the computer behaving now …
As for optimisation tools then normally you could run the tweaks manually
