I want to automatically scan all my download files. How???

Hi All,
I am new to Avast. I have search on the forums but could not find this topic. Sorry, if it has been posted alredy.
I want to add avast program file name into my Download Mangarer so that all of my downloaded files can be scan just after download automatically. Can anybody tell me the file name of avast ??? Or is there any other procedure in avast for doing so. Earlier I was using Norton and I have just type the NAV program file name into my my download manager.

Thanks in advance.

I told my download manager in Firefox to pass the downloaded file for scanning to:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe

It provides a status of the components scanned/infected etc. much as you would be used to with the other product and yes, it does scan the components of archive files/install files.

As far as I know setting Standard Shield to high automatically scans All created/modified files, wouldn’t this include downloads ?

I believe you are correct but the default on Standard shield is “Normal”.

The scanning considered for downloads really just allows the Standard shield to run at the default level of “normal” with the added value of “high” applied to files that have been selected for download.

One of those “personal choice” decisions on how to apply one’s system resources.

Standart shield will not scan archive files(dowloaded) ::slight_smile:

Neron,

just to confirm for anyone wondering what the difference is I believe you are saying that with Standard shield set to “high” new/created files will be scanned but that archive type files (including installation .exe files) will not be unpacked and the individual components scanned for viruses.

Is that correct?

The ashQuick option definitely does unpack and scan archive files.

Yes!

How did you do that? How did you “tell” Firefox to scan downloaded files?

Thanks alanrf a lot for help.
I have also set this and it is working well in my firefox.

@daddy

I installed an extension in Firefox called download statusbar that works with the Firefox download manager.

It offers a number of options one of which is to pass the downloaded file to an antivirus scanner. That is where I have specified ashQuick.exe.

for information on the extension see:

This is the Home version behavior… I suppose the Pro version does do that job.
Of course, I could be wrong. The best here will be Igor or RejZor words of wisdom 8)

alanrf, thanks! Download statusbar did the trick.

Most welcome.

Good to have you joining us automatically scanning our downloads with Avast.
