Well I didn’t have any problem with 5.0.545 and that continues with 5.0.594 and I’m thankful for that.
david can you explain to me why avast notification pop up doesn’t just detect if GUI has program update so notification pop up can occure? why there are no similarity between avast GUI and notification pop up
Sorry I don’t understand the question.
It also doesn’t appear to have anything to do with this particular topic.
yesterday my avast GUI detect that there is new program update but notification about program update isn’t showing, and many people in this forum said that because avast server isn’t overbloated, so it took some days to everyone to be alerted, but i still don’t know why avast notification doesn’t just detect if in GUI there is new program update, so notification about program update will occure.
The UI only notifies you an update is available, it doesn’t download it like the virus definitions updates that are done automatically. You have to either click on that notification which is also acceptance to download it or you have to use the Manual update from within the avastUI.
OK thanx for ur reply, but i mean why avast UI and pop up notification isn’t similar about detection about program update, while avast ui can detect if there is a new program update every i connected to internet, and notification pop up must wait for several days to popup
I really am unsure what it is that you are asking.
Guessing here, the program updates are cycled over a period of time to balance server load as all 100 million plus avast users can’t possibly update at the same time, so program updates will happen over a time period (cycle). In 4.8 this used to be 7 days, but by all accounts this 7 day program update cycle has been reduced in avast 5, but it is variable.
When notified of a program update you should take advantage of the update pop-up and click to update then, or you could re-enter the update cycle again.
Sorry to continue this off-topic discussion, but Avast 4.8 Pro used to automatically update the program when a new version was out. It would just bring up the blue box in the corner that said a new version of Avast has been installed. Then the blue box would drop down and a dialog box would appear saying Avast needed to restart Windows (with a Yes or No question).
Does Avast 5 have this same behavior? Will it automatically update the software when available and apply it, just asking the user to restart Windows? Or is it manual now? If it’s manual, I can see my users ignoring the message and I end up with dozens of machines that are running old versions of Avast.
Thanks for your time in replying.
You can chose from Automatic, Ask when Available, or Manual in the main settings.
That goes for both Engine and Virus definitions, and Program updates. Separate settings for each.
Sorry but it didn’t, avast has for many years had the default updates set to update VPS Auto and Program set to Ask, never to do a program update automatically as that could be considerably longer than the VPS update and you wouldn’t want that to happen if you were busy.
This has been carried forward to avast 5, the options to change these settings have always been there to change these defaults and that too has been carried forward.
I think what ardi_sugianto was trying to say was that even though the main screen of avast! was showing that a new program update was available, he never got the pop-up in the lower right of the screen saying a new program update was available, only several days after he saw it on the main screen. He only knew a update was available by opening the main screen and not by a pop-up.
