iAVS update does not work

My Avast 4.8 Home Edition worked very well for a month or so but suddenly the automatic uiAVS update didn’t work anymore. Manual update doesn’t work either.
My registration lasts till april 2009, my system time is accurate.

I alsno noticed that if I click on the proxy button in the update connections window, I get no pop-up window. I tried to uninstall the program via the windows control panel, that doesn’t work.

I have set the Windows firewall to allow incoming network connections for Avast.

I get the following messages in my logfile (warnings)

Thanks in advance.

In addition to my previous post.

I run windows XP professional edition sp 3.
Avast is the only malware protection I have used.

Has anything else changed on your system just before you noticed this problem ?

Are any avast (or other) messages displayed to the screen when this fails ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

no, nothing has changed that i know of.

the add/remove option doesnot work. I do not get any messages, it just does nothing.

regards,
Edmar

What do you mean by “the add/remove option doesnot work,” do you mean it doesn’t pop-up another window that gives Repair as an option or the Repair didn’t work ?

yeah that happened to me to.
I right click Avast- Updating> iAVS update, nothing pops.

in addition to that, i do not hear the sound “Virus Database has been updated”, that appears at the right end of the Taskbar.

OK, I’m also talking to Edmar about trying to repair avast using the add remove programs option, did you try the avast repair ?

However, you also seem to have other problems if your other topic is anything to go by (previous AV installed, etc.), so it would probably be best to stick with that topic (try the repair) and monitor this one.

Right. Nothing happens when I click on the change/remove button in the add or remove programs window. There’s just a glimpse of something that might be a pop up window, but nothing to click on that says ‘repair’.
With other applications I do get a window with various options.

Isn’t it hide and you can see it if you move the scroll down?

This is the window that should pop-up when you click the Change/Remove button in the windows add remove programs list.

If you don’t see that there is more wrong than simply the inability to update. So I would suggest that you reinstall avast.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

  1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.

  2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.

  3. install the latest version, reboot.

Thanks, I uninstalled the program using the link you sent me, and reinstalled Avast again. It is working again!

You’re welcome, thanks for the update.
