I have installed Avast on kubuntu 7.04. After installation I see no evidence of Avast on the desktop, eg icon on toolbar at bottom or in programs in Kmenu. Could someone help?
These commands will install avast!'s icons&links into the Applications—>Accessories—>avast! Antivirus menu.
cd /usr/lib/avast4workstation/share/avast/desktop && sudo ./install-desktop-entries.sh install
I did that already to no effect. What to do next?
What the error message did you get?
That is weird, by default an icon for Avast gets installed in Applications → System → Security for me. Running openSUSE 10.3 as my distro and installed it via RPM.
To Tech,
No error message. It immediately went back to the basic command line. I assume the commands were acted upon.
Maybe running:
/usr/lib/avast4workstation/share/avast/desktop/install-desktop-entries.sh
If this does not work, you can manually create an icon on the desktop… but, ok, it should work automatically.
When I install the deb package it did not create the icon on desktop by default.
This was what was returned:
This script tries to add/remove avast! menu entries for KDE and GNOME
Usage: install-desktop-entries.sh install|uninstall [DESTDIR]
How do I manually create icon? Thanks.
Icon problem solved. Figured out what to do. Just noticed there is no real tine email protection as there is on windows. Any suggestions for a program providing that?
KMail allows plugins for ClamAV and some others.
There isn’t a plugin for avast… It’s a pity!
If you are going to use clamAV with Kmail make sure that you do one of two things
- Run freshclam at least once a day (preferably before you check you email if you are paranoid about such things as email virus for Linux)
- Check to see if your *buntu ships with a freshclam deamon, if so then run that and it will automatically run freshclam every day for you. If not then I would add it to your cron.
HI, on 10/30/2007, Ahurd said he had figured this problem out. Please share what you did. Thanks
