Avast registered a threat and put a file into the virus chest. The Location was c:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\App.Data. I have not downloaded any new software, so I am not sure what would cause this. Would this be a false positive?
Is anyone able to help me with this as I am not very techie.
If you delete it and it turns out to be a false positive, you’ll have no way to restore it.
Leave it in a place where it can’t do any harm but can be restored if it turns out not to be dangerous.
if it is a needed file that is falsely detected there may be some issues with whatever program that need that file, that is why there is a quarantine (chest) then you have the option to fix any wrong doings your antivirus have done > click the link i gave and read
If you have reported it as a false positive using the option in virus chest, you now wait
Tomorrow you right click the file in chest and rescan it, if not detected you may restore it
I scanned the file while in the virus chest but it just completed and did not say anything.
If I scan it tomorrow and the file is safe, would it disappear from the Virus chest? Or if the file is a virus and I scan it, should it state that there is a virus in the file?
