IE 10 preview for Windows 7

I decided to give it a try and so far so good. All my settings were retained and there are a few new ones like an “Enhanced Protection Mode” which isn’t enabled by default. It also has a built in spell checker so I turned off Speckie to see how that works.

Here’s the About box:

Also decided to give Skydrive a try but the link it gives for the picture didn’t work so I had to revert to good old Photobucket.

Sky drive files (pictures) work if they are public:

Nope, made the picture public and tried the link given. It still doesn’t work.

I see that your picture is using the live file store. My link only goes to skydrive.live.com. I did not install the desktop application and I do not have Live Essentials installed. I don’t like the Windows Live stuff and dumped all of it a while ago.

The built in spell checker of IE 10 is excellent by the way.

I turned on the Enhanced Protection Mode and even though the MS site says you will have to grant the Flash Player permission to run since it’s not compatible yet, YouTube videos played fine without having to allow anything. They must have fixed that problem in this latest preview. Or EPM is broken entirely.

In your online skydrive folder, right click on the picture you want to share select view original when the new tab opens, copy that link and use it to share the picture.

Okay let’s try that.

Aha that works. Thanks Bob

I have discovered some other things. It seems to load up the 64 bit version of IE, even If I manually select the program in the Program Files(X86) folder and, something that wasn’t entirely unexpected, the Script Shield of Avast does not work in IE 10 for Windows 7.

Nice to know that one old dog can still teach another old dog new tricks. ;D

I just downloaded and installed IE10 and everything is working fine. Seems to load faster than IE9.

Blah… Haven’t used IE in over 10 years and will never. Google Chrome is where its at.

I agree it does seem faster than 9 but not drastically so.

Everyone has something to contribute though perhaps, on more occasions, some might consider… silence.

Its a free world and this is an open forum which means people are title to there opinions. IE lacks add ons especially an ad blocker.

As the thread was about IE10 there was really no need for your off topic comment about your liking of Chrome, it clearly has nothing to do with the topic as it’s not about preferences plus if you haven’t use IE in ten years then your probably not in the best position to comment on it ::slight_smile:

IE 9 and 10 does include add blocking by the way! via manage add-ons - tracking protection.

FYI…Its called “Ad Blocking”. Not Add. Thanks. IT still lacks customization which makes FF and Chrome so much better and more secure.

How ever it’s spelt you know what I mean so quit being a smart arse and trying to back peddle on the fact you didn’t even know IE could block ad’s, time to look back at Vladimyr coment to you “Everyone has something to contribute though perhaps, on more occasions, some might consider… silence” ;D ;D

Your opinions are still off topic and unfounded, IE 10 is one of the most secure browsers at the moment and there are tests to validate this so I suggest you do some googling ( start here https://www.nsslabs.com/reports/browser-security-comparative-analysis-socially-engineered-malware ), as far as customisation’s go why would I want to customise it? it works fine as it is, you have also mentioned previously that you only use two add-ons so customisation can’t be all that necessary.

Where are the settings for the “Enhanced Protection Mode?”

I think this is what Dch48 is refering to ???

Thank you.

No Craig, that is the normal protected mode which has been present since IE8 at least. The Enhanced Protection Mode takes it much further and the setting is in the advanced Internet Options under Security. It basically locks down access to areas that the browser shouldn’t need access to, like your personal information. It’s not enabled by default because not all IE addons are compatible yet.

You can also see the option for Do Not Track which is enabled by default. This is a very secure browser and needs no addons to make it so. I do have the privacychoice tracking list installed though and it blocks almost all ads. Now Avast needs to make the Script Shield work with it and it will be perfect.

Can you do a screen shot of it please as I can’t find what your talking about.

The img that you have there is un-viewable.

You can’t view it? let me try to fix that.
How about now? If it still doesn’t work, I’ll upload it to Photobucket instead of Skydrive. I had forgotten to make the file public, it should work now.
