Only files on this folder C:\WINDOWS\Temp_avast4_ are related to avast and can’t be deleted by that command.
But, why not the others?!
avast can’t block or avoid files deletion…
Did you run and avast scanning? Are you clean of viruses?
… there’s no problem manually clearing cache with clearmgr or internet options/clear cache or just manual selecting and deleting from the drive, but the cache will not auto clear on browser window closing when the virus program is installed even though that IE option is selected. I can delete it from reg/run and reboot & instantly clear cache on close browser option works.
I’m now pretty much forced to not run a resident full time virus program unless I can figure out a work around - and I’ve devoted so much time now tinkering. I decided to ask here before trying another maker of virus ware.
mikep, this is not a solution, but a work-around: Try IE Privacy Keeper (http://www.unhsolutions.net/IEPK/index.shtml). Excellent software, freeware, that can automatically clean everything (see the last photo).
Yes, but you have to be careful it doesn’t delete the avast4 folder in ‘C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temp_avast4_’ as has happened with someone and he couldn’t use web shield without the folder. Best to run it at the end of the day prior to shut-down.
I’ve got IE6 set to auto-clear the cache when closing IE, plus I clear temp. internet files (via Internet Options) after closing which typically finds even more to delete. Plus after I come offline (I’m on dialup) I’ll use Disk Cleanup which often finds still more.
Do you mean that whilst ashWebSv.exe is running as a service or is actually connected to the internet? I ask this because earlier today prior to my last post I used a cleaner program and deleted the folder avast4 I referred to, ashWebSv was running as a service, but I don’t remember if I was actually on-line at the time.
I am however able to continue browsing with web shield enabled even without avast4.
