ie settings are changed to "never dial a connection"

Hi there,
My ie settigs keep getting changed back to “never dial a connection”, even though I did what it said in the FAQ for dial up connections.
Im using windows ME btw.
Can anyone help its driving me nutty! 8)

  1. What version of avast do you have, exactly?
  2. Please start the avast antivirus main application, open the manu (e.g. by right-clicking anywhere in the ‘Blue Panel’), select Settings, go to ‘Updates (Connections)’ and verify that the ‘I only use a dial-up connection’ option is checked.

Thanks
Vlk

  1. I have version 4.1 free for home use.
  2. yes the “I always use a dial up connection” box is ticked in the settings.
Weird! In general I think avast is gnarly by the way, and am very grateful for it especially being free!

Vlk is right. But take care: some updates - almost in the past - has “changed” this option and the sympthoms were there again… I have to choose the option ‘I only use a dial-up connection’ more than one time… Maybe - I’m not sure - this is a bug that ‘resets’ the configurations after an update. 8)

Thanks Bruce, I’ll keep that in mind, having said that , IE has been behaving itself lately, maybe that’s because there’s been no updates(?!)

Hey Eva :), I think it doesnt have to do anything with the availability of updates. If it behaves it’s probably because you made the change to the settings - it should really help.

So, could you explain why this happens in Windows 98 with quite a frequency. I have my settings stored with a password but when a program update was performed the IE option turn back to “Never dial a connection”…
I’m not crazy Vlk, this happens indeed >:(
