IE stops working after unintstall

Avast free edition for Windows was not updating the signatures. Said it coudn’t access the server. I unistalled it so I could reinstall the latest version but after uninstall, IE cannot access web pages. IE does work in safe mode.

Hi bobsingle, just letting you know that you might wish to hide your email under profile otherwise spammers may harvest it.

Which is your firewall? Is avast allowed to connect?
Any other antivirus before avast?

Thanks for the suggestion. Norton was installed previously. After I uninstalled Norton Internet Explorer works!

The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2003-2010 products from your computer.

  1. (If possible) Remove Symantec products through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me. Boot.
  3. Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.
