IE trys to load then disappears

I had been using Avast Pro 4.6.691 with good results. Yesterday I tried to load IE 6 and it appeared for a few seconds then disappeared. I noticed it did the sam thing when I tried to load MSN, the same thing. I started checking things out and I believe that when the Avast scripting loaded, it prevented the programs from loading, acting like a pop up blocker. When I uninstalled Avast the programs worked like a charm. Anyone have or experianced the same problem? If so, is there a fix? would like to know as I am using a different program now until I get this problem fixed.

I doubt that the Script Blocker could act as a pop-up blocker.
In fact, it only scans the scripts and does not just block all them.
Did you upgrade from Home to Pro or just buy the Pro version at first?

That’s really strange. Does it help if you simply stop the Script Blocker provider, instead of uninstalling avast!?
What operating system do you use?

I have seen a similar problem to this before, check and ensure that IE is set as your default browser.

I have the Pro version. I did not upgrade. I did disable the scriptblocker and still the same results. When I used Mozilla Firebird browser it worked just fine. MSN browser was the default browser.

OK. I will reinstall AVAST and make IE my default browser. I will not install web shield as I am currently using Znoealarm Pro. Will keep you informed.

Thanks.

Hello. I could not get Avast to work properly so I reinstalled Windows. Avast is working ok now. I remembered that I tried to install System Mechanic Pro 5.5a on my system before this happened. I think a remnent of the program remained and was blocking the programs from loading. Avast just happened to share that part somehow. Everything is ok now. But now I know what caused the problem.

Thank you.

This could be a headache program if you don’t manage it well. It’s very powerful but could mess some things in your machine.
If you have the Pro version, try to get support from the manufacturer.

Thanks for the reply. I was trying a trial version and after looking at it for a little bit I saw that the antivirus it has is Kaspersky with a firewall and pop up blocker. When I uninstalled it parts of the popup blocker was not uninstalled and that was the problem. Never use that program again.
