IE7 Beta2 Preview and avast!

IE7 feeds seem to confuse avast:

Hmmm … I have been using IE7 Beta2 since it’s release but I have not had this problem yet. I get news and RSS feeds on my Earthlink home page. have you posted at the Beta2 discussion board?

Charly,

did you “Enable scheduled syncing of feeds”?

And no, I havn’t yet posted to IE newsgroup. I’m pretty sure this is an avast problem.

Interesting, is this problem reproducible? And is this WinXP?

BTW drahnier welcome back, you only come when you have a new problem! ;D

Well, do you think it’s really IE7 specific? I believe we’ve seen similar log entries for all Windows version… coming probably from scanning of a corrupted (incomplete) file.

Yep, it appears that I have or Earthlink did it for me. I even changed everything I could change just to see if I could activate a problem … but nothing … no errors, no warnings, etc.

I am at a loss as to your problem. I sure hope we can fix it! :-\

Problem is reproducible. My Avast event log is flooded with these warnings and errors. there’s both a warning and an error logged for each attempt to access a file .feed-ms. - even if i globally exclude scanning files of this type (*.feed-ms) i get this error.

XP Pro SP2, IE7 Beta2 Preview.

The Exclusion you have added only works in the on-demand scans, you missed the bit except for resident protection. So you need to add this to the standatd shield.

Standard Shield, Customize…, Advanced and add the same file mask.

OK, the problem is caused by the internal format of the *.feed-ms files. Simply said, they’re standard OLE files - but with some twist added to them.

Therefore, avast submits the error entry, meaning “error while scanning OLE file”.

We will fix this in the next program update.

Meanwhile, you can add the *.feed-ms mask to the scan exception in the Standard Shield provider (double-click the avast (a) ball tray icon → click “Details >>” → scroll to Standard Shield → double click its icon → go to the Advanced page and insert the mask to the exception list).

Thanks
Vlk
