IE7 causes memory access violation in avast.setup

After upgrading to IE7 Avast update fails with an application error: “The instruction at 0x0128f888 referenced memory at 0x012a1e94. The memory could not be read”. Note that the memory addresses will vary. Reinstalls using versions 4.7.844 and 4.7.892 failed to fix the problem. As a rule, I shut down all unnecessary processes before installs.

Prior to the IE7 upgrade Avast ran just fine. I am aware other Avast users have not experienced the same problem. How can I get Avast to update?

Avast Home 4.7.844 with virus database 0622-2.
Windows XP SP2 fully updated.
Compaq Presario 2145US.

Uninstalling IE7 fixed the problem. However, I do need IE7 installed on this particular machine and therefore am still looking for a solution.

Frozensnack, for me, both avast and IE7 are working smoothly…
Maybe other software in this computer? Can you post more info about?
I’m not the best guy on debugging :-[

Try changing proxy settings from Autodetect to Direct. Would that help?

(avast Settings → Updating (Connections) → Proxy)

Thanks
