IE8 USERS WIN XP. LOTS OF NETWORK SHIELD DETECTIONS ON E-BAY?

Hi,
Just alot now today, network shield is detecting lots of malware urls on e-bay uk site. Any one else having the same issues. Using IE8. However using Firefox this does not happen!

As IE8 is an older browser am still a win xp user will think of just using firefox from now on & DUMP IE8 From my system through add and remove programs for now as IE8 IS OBSELETE!.

This is a knowm issue. Ebays ad servers got infected. They are working on it.

I wouldn’t delete IE8, even without MS updates there are some other purposes for which it is the default browser.

But the general advice has long been, even before MS stopped support, not to use IE(8) as your browser with WinXP.

Firefox, Chrome, Opera or whatever there are plenty of alternative and many would say better choices and not just from the security issue perspective.

Please, DO NOT USE IE8.
If you do, you’re doomed.
Read avast’s blog post: http://blog.avast.com/2014/03/12/avast-will-continue-to-support-windows-xp-for-home-and-business-users/
"Something that can help those users be more secure is switching their browser. XP users often also use Internet Explorer, which can be a severe security risk. Right now, IE 8 is the latest version that will run on Windows XP, meaning that it’s 3 generations old and no longer receives critical updates.

Our advice: If you must keep using Windows XP, switch to Google Chrome. Chrome is arguably the most secure browser for Windows XP, and like Avast, is guaranteed to support XP moving forward."

If you uninstall IE8, IE7 gets installed.
That’s the last thing you need. Keep IE8, just don’t use it.

I would recommend using Adblock Plus.

I know this may not have any bearing on this thread but read this about the password breach at eBay.

Yes was a security breach on e-bay their site had infections the other day.

I am only using Firefox browser now within windows xp on my machine now as this allways updates as security holes are discovered. And chrome browser is good also.

Microsoft is not fixing any part of XP. IE8 is not getting any security updates.

install google chrome
install chrome extension “Adblock” – ads are becoming the most common source of infections. The website maintainers have little control in what shows up in an ad.
set google chrome as the default browser.
delete IE icons from desktop, start menu, and quick launch bar.
