I just wanted to come back and wrap up this thread, and to thank you again for your assistance.

I got the clean-up done, a number of patches/updates installed, etc. All reports are that the system has been running perfectly (for a week now).

I also wanted to thank you for pointing me in the direction of GeeksToGo. I had a (non-malware) Firefox issue which had been driving me nuts for a couple of weeks, and I had failed to get any meaningful help at two other forums (one of which charges a monthly subscription). There were some people who chimed in and tried to be helpful, but no one was able to actually help me resolve it.

Then I posted on GeeksToGo … and within a couple of days, I had narrowed down the culprit. I did the “last mile” of detective work on my own - but, the suggestions in the G2G forum pointed me in a totally different direction to my other threads - and in the end, that made all the difference.

I’ve been in the IT game for over 30 years, and normally, I’m the one helping others. But on those few occasions when I’m the one who needs the help, it is reassuring to know that there are actually some useful, knowledgeable resources out there to turn to :).
