If you have a Win32:Bubak[rtk] and Win32:Bubnix-J [Rtk] and taskbar issue

I decided to post this because after browsing the web for 3 painful days to resolve my issue, I found only very few posts/people with my issue. All were very recent by the way none of their issues seem to be resolved after following the advice of the experts, except that their computers were free of viruses by then. I’m posting this so that others in my dilemma could use my solution and see if it works for them if the set of instructions given to them by the techies still didn’t solve the taskbar issue.

I was on Mozilla when my Avast alerted and blocked several of the win32: Bubak and Bubnix and moved them to the chest. About 51 system32 drivers in total. Afterward, my computer froze and I had to restart it. Upon starting, my taskbar either was frozen or was just lagging which took about 20-30 minutes to resume “normal” function. The start up button and Ctrl Alt Delete did not work or were frozen during the duration. So I went on several forums including Avast to find a solution. For every one of the forums I went to, there seems to be a set of instructions to follow to remove any malwares, trojans, and viruses. I chose to follow the one in majorgeeks: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=208809. I’m sure there’s one by essexboy on Avast I saw. I’m sure there are others but all follow somewhat of the same format. Make sure you follow their directions step by step so you won’t delete any important files or basically mess up your computer.

After all steps were taken, my pc seemed cleaned now of viruses and malware but like others my taskbar was frozen. Then I ran a couple other online scanners, rootkit scanners, adware/spyware and found a couple more issues other scanners didn’t pick up. Didn’t help with the frozen taskbar so I ran a chkdsk and it removed a couple things. Again taskbar is frozen. I have HP so I ran an HP systems check online and under “suggestions for optimizing” there were issues related to my audio device. There was one PCIDUMP.sys but I ignored that after researching what it was.

After your taskbar is unfrozen, check to see if your volume control icon there. If it’s not check to see if the audio device driver is there by going to control panel and go to adjust the system audio. It will tell you if you have an audio or sound driver. If not, go to the Device Manager and go in Sound, video and game controller. If you have a bunch of yellow triangles with black exclamation marks, uninstall those drivers. Then right click on any and “scan for hardware changes” so it can get reinstall. After restarting my computer, that did the trick! My taskbar is no longer frozen! BUT my usb port wasn’t working. So check to see if your USB port is working. If not, do the same thing under Universal Serial Bus controller but uninstall all. Then scan for hardware changes. If the usb still doesn’t work go back to device manager while your flash drive is in the port, and you’ll see the yellow black exclamation mark. It will tell you “Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged” Right click to uninstall and right click again to scan for hardware changes. Now my USB port works! Every works fine now…for now.

I’m not an expert or even an intermediate so I suppose be wary of this post or it’s suggestions? But I wanted to post this in hopes that it will help someone out there who was as frustrated as I was when I couldn’t find much information about the taskbar issue after Avast moved all those win32’s drivers to the chest. Also because there are very few posts on the world wide web about this issue.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I had the exact same issues you were having with the exact same types of malware. I followed your directions and it WORKED! This needs to be bumped to the top, and perhaps stickied. The directions you gave are clear, and the link you gave to Major Geeks was superbly helpful.

Thanks so much for your help.

;D GOD BLESS YOU!!!

That did it for me, too. My only concern is that with 51 system files (same # for me), we may be missing some. This is such a welcome improvement though. Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOO much!

Welcome to the forums, CarboH2O, erspears, & blacker

Thanks, CarboH2O, for posting help that worked for all 3 of you.

Hopefully, it will also help others.
