Illegal license key of avast! Pro 4.6.691 was released!

StyleWarz, you better believe it 'cause I tried it and it worked. Kaspersky uses a registry key, Panda just a username & password. They both worked normally and updated.
BitDefender -1 year promo- is a greek “PC Magazine” offer. Been using it 2 days and let me say I’m not impressed. After an update my PC auto-rebooted without a warning & today I can’t update at all!!! I think I’ll be going back to avast on this PC too…

Well this shouldn’t be a surprise for anyone. Piracy has always been the dark side of software industry. And the more a program is popular, the more attention it gets from the undeground community.

So, after all, we can all be happy - it’s one of the sign that avast is becoming increasingly popular… ;D

BTW the first keygen for avast 4.6.691 has been released about 6 hours after we released the update (on Saturday)
Of course, we’re monitoring the situation and have it under control (I reckon it’s becoming nuisance for the users of the pirated copies to be forced to search for a new keygen after each update…).

Honestly, I don’t know what kind of reaction do you expect ::slight_smile:
License keys, keygens, or cracks will always be released - and whoever thinks otherwise is naive. That’s a fact. You may try to make it harder, but the question is how much effort is worth it. Most protection measures bother legal users more than the unauthorized ones - besides, it takes time to implement (and there’s always risk of bugs that will prevent even legal users from using the program). So, it’s usually not worth to try to implement some “crackproof” protection.

We are “monitoring” the keygens and leaked keys for avast! to some extent, and try to blacklist them from time to time, but it doesn’t have such a high priority as you may expect. After all, we are offering a free version of avast!, all our products can be installed as trials… it’s better to allow more people to get familiar with avast! (without obstacles) than implement restrictions.

Igor, I expected exactly what you and Vlk posted…
Show that you’re reading the forum, trying to get a feasable solution, improving avast.
Sorry, sometimes we feel stolen when avast! is cracked… maybe just a sentimental thought that we participate with you in your work making avast!
Maybe we’re stolen avast! from you ;D

I will admit I use to be a warez whore back in the days…including pirating Avast.

Avast 4.0 and 4.1 use to be too easy to find a working keygen…the same keygen use to work for up to 5 different updates…sometimes even older ones worked better than the newer ones.

I went straight to the Avast Home side with the late-4.1/4.5/4.6 releases…so I dunno about the situation now. Looking at this thread, it looks like you got a good system in place. But yeah…the dark side will always find workarounds, unfortunately.

To be honest, the people who pirate Avast Pro probably don’t even use the extra features :stuck_out_tongue: The balance between Home and Pro features is very good with Avast…I just love the author’s work ^^
