Illusion 2000 + Avast

Hi

Does anyone know where I can find the directory Avast uses when updating its virus definitions?

I’m currently using illusion 2000 which is a piece of software that erases any changes made to files, directories, programs etc. whenever you restart the computer. Its basically frozen. Even updates get erased.

Illusion allows me to make exceptions to certain directories, and I’d like Avast to be able to update.

Thanks in advance.

Avast 4.6 home edition.
Windows XP pro

Virus database updates are stored here: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data\Setup
But, all avast! folder could be changed with program updates. Also logs, reports, etc. changes other files into avast! folder.
You could get a corrupted installation… ::slight_smile:

Anyway, welcome to avast! forums 8)

So I’m better off if I make an exception for the entire C:\Alwil folder?

Is this the only place where Avast makes updates,…?

Anyway I’ll try for now with just that directory.

Thanks a lot.

For VPS updates, the folders
\Data and \Setup should be enough. During a program update, however, other files are updated as well (through the whole folder, and also some files in Windows or System folder).

All right, everything seems to be working now. Updates are being kept,…

However, I want as few exceptions as possible, and I’m not going to include the System folder so I’ll just stick to deactivating Illusion and manual updates.

Thanks for the help anyway.
