Use the NAV uninstall util from Symantec to completly remove NAV.
Than do a repair of Avast.
Let us know if it solved the problem.
hi Eddy
here we go with the stupid questions … :-[

are you talking about “NAVEXCEL search toolbar” remove only - and I see a NAV helper
Use the util, I gave you the link in my previous post.

if you want my aol IM name is Twinkies163 it’ll be up for a while
Thanks
Link is working fine for me.
try it again, if it still fails, look here :
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606
That one got me right to the site.
OUI…
Where do I begin
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
honestly guys - I’m too scared to delete anything outta this computer ! lol
Don’t worry. Just try as Technical suggested.
If that doesn’t help:
1] get the util and use it to remove NAV
2] reboot
3] do the repair of Avast (as Technical explained)
4] reboot
5] let us know the result. (problem solved?)
When I goto the control panel and click on avast the only options it gives me is “Change” “Uninstall” and “Update”
When I goto the control panel and click on avast the only options it gives me is "Change" "Uninstall" and "Update"
It should be right under ‘update’, did you scrole down?

I’M such a LOSER !!!
found the “repair” duh
Okay that one didn’t work for me
NAV - help - where am I clicking on that.
OMG I’m feeling like such a moron on this site
Klik on the link I gave you in my first post. I discovered there was something added to it by the board software.
I corrected it and it should work now.
Alrighty Eddy
that gave me RNAV2003.exe
but I have norton 2004
will this matter
Get it (if you don’t already have downloaded it) and use it. It won’t harm your system, only cleans up a few leftovers the uninstall (add/remove programs in the control panel) of NAV didn’t deleted.
hey eddy
I Uninstalled avast and then re installed it
and came with the same results "Error Application Cannot Load skin function “usigetskin” failed
also was searhing through here and saw - littlefoot’s thread :

browsing the the web site and came across the FAQs
Q: I have installed avast! 4 Home and everytime I try to open it, I get an “unknown error message”, “Application cannot load skin. Function usiGetSkin Failed”. How do I fix this?
A:
- Select START → RUN…
- Enter the following command:
* If you have Windows NT or 2000:
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
* If you have Windows 95, 98 or ME:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
* If you have Windows XP:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX - Press OK (or Enter).
- A message saying that the file was successfully registered should appear.
this did not work for me a window popped up saying :
RegSvr32
DllRegisterserver in ACTSKIN4.OCX failed.
Return Code was : 0x80020009
