Follow the instructions on THIS PAGE
When asking for help it helps us if you give more information like:
- What OS are you using? is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
- What was the virus name, what was the filename, where was it found
example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)? - What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem?
Windows in its infinite wisdom protects files is use (even malware) so this may be why it can’t be moved or deleted, etc.
The virus name with [Adw] indicates adware and there are programs designed to remove adware such as.
- Ad-Aware
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.
- Download HijackThis.zip - HiJackThis Tutorial
You will have see hijackthis mentioned in Eddy’s web site link that he gave.
Hi DavidR,
Don’t you think that camberlin did a panda online scan. This can give symptoms like this.

The the lack of information we can’t take anything for granted or make an assumption, but this isn’t one of the regular Panda virus signatures that get found. Without an infected filename or location we simply can’t say, which is why I asked.
