I'm infected with rumolottra and debrovorda

In addition to the pop-ups from Avast saying it has stopped one of these two sites, I frequently get webpage errors with a window asking if I want to debug the specific web page, and checking the “do not notify me of this error again” box doesn’t stop further messages.

As per instructions given in https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0,
I’ve run malwarebytes and had the system pronounced clean, and for some reason it didn’t provide me with a log to post here.

I’ve run Farbar Recovery Scan, and aswMBR, and have attached the logs they produced.

There are 3 settings for IE11 to stop the debug errors…and I have all 3 checked. Something seems to uncheck them, which I assume is part of the reason why they are popping in.

Hmm this has now changed

CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Farbar has been run. Fixlog.txt attached.

About to run Combofix per your instructions.

Here is the Combofix log.

I haven’t seen a re-occurrence of any of the issues I had before. The computer seems to be performing as I’d normally expect. Of course, I’ve only used the system minimally so far today, aside from clearing it of infections. I will continue to watch for anything.

Thank you

If all is well tomorrow then let me know and I will tidy up

Thank you. All continues well here.

In that case methinks I will send you on your merry way

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Click Start then Run.
On Windows7 or Vista you may use Start Search field if Run is not available.
In the box copy/paste the following command:

ComboFix /Uninstall

Note that there is a space between " ComboFix " and " /Uninstall " .

Then click OK (or press Enter ).
Wait for the uninstall process to complete.

Download and run Delfix

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

Having completed the above, I was going to wait the designated 24 hours before giving additional feedback, but I have a little issue…

Somewhere in the course of this process, it seems I’ve lost my calendar gadget I keep on my desktop. When I right-click on the desktop and select gadgets, I get a little message box that says desktop gadgets are being managed by my system administrator. Nothing I’ve tried so far has enabled desktop gadgets. Do you have any ideas?

I was eventually able to restore the calendar gadget by running http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662. I also read a lot about how desktop gadgets could be a security exploit, so I’ve put it on my to-do list to write a replacement program.

OK when you applied Cryptoprevent protection there should have been a warning about sidebar and gadgets did you click Yes to that to disable them ?

I clicked NO to not disable them.

Aside from my issue with the sidebar and gadgets, I’ve had no problems in the computer today, and I am satisfied with how it operates.

Thank you for your excellent assistance.

Best regards,
Steve Tabler

My pleasure
