I'm moving to 64-bit OS

Hello fellow Avasters!

I’m buying a new laptop soon and I’ll be running Windows 7 64-bit OS on it. So, as I understand there is no 64-bit version of Avast but that 32-bit version works good just the same on 64-bit OS (except for the boot scan). Is it possible for me to somehow copy all my Avast settings from my old 32-bit Windows XP desktop to the new laptop so that I won’t have to set everything again manually? How do I do this so that it will be done right?

Thank you!

There is no need Avast! Boot Time Scan Works On 64-bit in 5.1

That’s great, I didn’t know! Can you tell me how do I “move” my Avast settings from my old PC to my new 64-bit one? And by the way, are there any plans for 64-bit Avast in the future? Thank you!

And V6.0 8)

You can backup avast5.ini it will be stored in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\AVAST Software\Avast

There is no need for 64-bit avast!

So I can replace the default avast5.ini ony my Win7 64-bit laptop with the old avast5.ini from my XP 32-bit desktop? Will this work OK even if there’s such a difference in the computers and OS? Thank you!

Preferably i would set up fresh, only takes a few moment’s to adjust any setting’s in avast.
Dont forget to thoroughly delet the factory installed av then run the product’s removal tool as well.

+1

It is a good review of what you need to change and I find the defaults quite good.
