i'm not understanding

I have downloaded the program and I still have huge problems.

I am on broadband and i’m running like dial up.

it does not seem to be fixing my problem ???

infact it makes my computer run even slower :frowning:

I sort of found the problem myself, I think. i’m not no techie.

I think the file is called:

webrebates. it’s in my program files and can’t be deleted.

could this be my problem?

Softsong, why do you think webrebates has anything related to avast antivirus?
avast does not change your Internet speed… It shouldn’t.
You downloaded avast but, did you install it?

i’m not sayin that webrebates has anything to do with avast at all. sorry if it seemed that way.

and yes I installed it. what i’m sayin is, I have a horrible virus in my system and it’s not going away for me.

and thank you for your response

what i'm sayin is, I have a horrible virus in my system and it's not going away for me.

How did you identify this horrible virus, avast, online scanner, what?

Please Help us to Help you In order to help fully we need more information…

  • avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
  • What was the virus name, what was the filename, where was it found
    example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?
  • What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem?

General Advice & Tools for virus/trojan/malware removal

If you need more help, come back here with more info…

ONLINE VIRUS SCANNERS
TrendMicro’s Housecall
F-Secure On-line Scanner ActiveX required
These are just a few of the many on-line scanners out there, check out RejZor’s Website - Security Ops for more On-line Virus Scanners Security.Ops.tk

Edit: A google search for webrebates returns many hits. It is adware and should be removable with adaware or spybot Search & Destroy. This is not to say this is your only problem.

i’m using win.xp
outlook express
version 4.1 home edition
well the webrebate did not show up, I detected it by doing alt control delete. then saw it there running. it’s in my c: program files. note: it can’t be deleted ???

did you already scan your pc with avast?

maybe you have a trojaner/virus/worm on your pc, which can make your cpu indeed very slow
(or your internet connection in this case…)

(or did i get the thread wrong?)

I sort of found the problem myself, I think. i'm not no techie.

You rang! ;D

Ok, before you start getting off track, let’s do things in a logical order, shall we?

Run a full Avast scan. Right click on the A ball, load the On demand scanner. Then, click on each of the “drive” icons and set the scanner for a thorough scan with archives including all external and removal disks.

If you receive an error message, give me the “exact” message including any paths and filenames.

If you have any trouble running the Avast scan, then go online and run TrendMicro.

As long as Avast was properly installed, it doesn’t matter right now whether it is Home or Pro, or the version. The basic OD scanner should still run.

There are many reasons that a pc slows down. Right now, we must eliminate causes.
“Learn to walk before you run”

yes, thats what i meant to say

btw, if you did the thorough scan, tell me how long your pc needed for how many GB of datas (i’m just interested, because i posted a related thread some days/weeks ago)- cheers

no you didn’t get it wrong. and you’re prob. right about the trojaner/virus/worm …

I also asked your program to scan this " webrebates file "
and it doesn’t say anything is wrong ???

like I said earlier. i’m no techie with this stuff, but my machine is running like crap >:(

I’ll try it, and get back to you about it.

thank you all you’re all very kind 8)

I also asked your program to scan this " webrebates file

lol, avast! isn’t MY program, i’m a normal user as you are

anyways, try a thorough scan (damn, i can’t spell this word correct grr ) and also scan “within archives”…and then tell us the result…

and i know, its shit when the PC runs like crap, i also had this problem…

Hi,

please read the link “VirusRemoval” below in my sig, and then

  • install/update SPYBOT & Ad-Aware

  • disable system restore

  • reboot to safeMode

  • scan & fix several times with Ad-Aware & SPYBOT, until nothing more is found/fixed

  • reboot normally

  • if this doesn’t help, please post a hijackthis-Log for diagnosis

  • you might also want to run Onlinescannrs from Trend & RAV

P.S.: Secure your system & Browser BETTER !

if this doesn't help, please post a hijackthis-Log for diagnosis

seems to me that here are a lot of hijackthis-log-fans

Hi Sir markus0r,

this is because most current Malware needs to put its startup-entry “somewhere” (except now rare “classic” file-infecting viruses)

→ and HJT shows most of the startup-entries, so it’s pretty easy to detect anything unusual there →
Thus detection is possible even for malware which a current malware-Scanner doesn’t know

Softsong, click on this link and read everything, please:

http://www.adwareaway.com/webrebates.htm

Cheers !

hmm, then maybe i’ve to get a HJT-fan too
