Ever since I installed Avast, all of my emails don’t show any pictures or images. And yes, I have show images turned on and even when I manually try to show pictures, they don’t show. They are there because if I copy the image holder area and paste into Word, they are there. Any work-around for this?
Hello,
it looks like we need a little more information.
What Windows version? (XP, Vista, Win 7 // 32 or 64 bit)
What version of Avast: Free, Pro, AIS?
What version number? (6.0.10191 ?)
Do you use an email-program or is it a web based mail client where the pictures don’t show?
Sorry about that!

Okay, so your Avast is out of date…
Click on the blue “Free” in my signature and download.
Install right over the existing version, no uninstall needed.
Reboot and check.
Please report back.
Just updated to the lastest version, rebooted and same thing occures.
Okay.
But you do not have any pop-ups from Avast like “Thread / Malicious URL blocked”?
I think you need to Google for Outlook command line parameters.
Start Outlook in its safe mode or with special parameter that “resets” the Outlook.
I don’t think it is avast related, really.
…you took the words right out of my mouth,
it must have been while I was kissing you…
;D
That was what I was about to write after the next answer.
Does this help?
Googling for “Outlook no images” brings zillions of links - very common problem.
It seem like this all started when I got Avast though several months back.
I have had this problem for several months and did some research and gave up.
I remember looking at that one link. OL 2007 has that area to change somewhere other than where they list, but even in one single email when I click on “show images”, all it does is expand the placeholder, but no image.
What does the place holder look like? Little red X? Or something else?
The mail shield is turned on in Avast?
Emails are scanned?
What happens if you disable mail shield?
No red x or anything, just the blank box (placeholder).
Emails are scanned…as far as I know.
I just now disabled mail shield. I may have tried that before too.
Okay, please give info if disabling Mail Shield changes the behavior.
That didn’t help.
Use Thunderbird. ;D
For images, try disabling the web shield.
Outlook Pro 2007
Try this
In Outlook 2007, click on Tools, Options, and then on the Security tab.You should see that option: “Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail.”?
Uncheck that and it’ll do what you’ve asked for: display items immediately.
I unchecked it…but nothing. Even restarted OL.
If you haven’t tried this you could try to send an email with an image from a second email account if you have one.
Add your other email address to the Safe Senders list and then send an email with an image from your other email account.
I had been re-forwarding emails from myself to myself. I also just now logged into another computer and sent an email with an image and it didn’t show up. It did on the one that I sent it from.
Dang…what could be causing this??
