(iMesh) files could not be scanned error 42056

My friend’s trial subscription to Norton had expired, so I uninstalled it and installed Avast free ver. 5. Ran a scan and it came back clean but gave this message:

"Some files could not be scanned
C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\iMesh Applications\iMesh\Skins\PS.exe|>Pro.skn
C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\iMesh Applications\iMesh\Skins\PS.exe|>Pro.xml

Error: Archive is password protected (42056)"

The teenage daughter had previously iMesh and it’s toolbar to listen to music. I’m wondering if these password protected iMesh files are cause for concern? She does not mind getting rid of iMesh if necessary. I also wonder if iMesh is a safe, legal music site?

Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.

Many programs (usually security based ones) password protect their files for legitimate reasons such as AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, there are others (and avast doesn’t know the password or have any way of using it even if it did know it).

When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.

By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to. You may need to expand the column headings to see all the text.

If you can give some examples of those file names, the locations and reason given why it can’t be scanned might help us further ?

I don't know about iMesh or its legitimacy as a music site, I suggest you try google. However if your daughter isn't using it then it can be installed and that should remove every thing including the password protected files.

Hello

The iMesh site gets a red rating from WOT it used to be installed here on my computer but I uninstalled it due to Adware and potential Spyware concerns even though when it was on my computer it was not flagged as either by Avast.
Hope this helps.

Justin

The password protected files are used by iMesh to change the application skin when you upgrade to PRO subscription
It is protected so only paying PRO subscribers can enjoy this skin
This is not a matter of concern
iMesh does not infect your computer with viruses, I’m using it for over 5 years and it is a great app
