Right now I use Spyware Blaster and Spybot for Immunization. I like immunization because, as md usa spybot fan from the Spybot forums said, is a passive protection so it doesn’t use any system resources and it makes you safer. What other programs provide immunization?
Windows Advanced Care has a free version.
Would anyone recommend Windows Advanced Care? And is that the other only free one?
I do ;D
It’s a very good freeware.
Free? I think so…
spyware terminator also has an immunization feature, although its a lil hard to find.
Advanced Windows Care has one too, and i do use AWC, but AWC was once a partner with evonsoft. I believe it has stopped working with evonsoft because AWC has caught on much more than evonsoft’s antispyware product which was/is a rogue antispyware product* (for more on this read below). AWC is still somewhat new, but it has really caught on among internet users and has grown tremendously. Evonsoft no longer links to AWC, and it appears AWC was bought by a large company (iobit) at some point and is gaining much more recognition. I use AWC and have had no problems with it.
*Now for people wondering about evonsoft’s Advanced Spyware Remover (notice the similarities in the name to AWC, they used to be partners some how, and USED to link to one another, but i am not sure about the details between the companies). Evonsoft’s antispyware program is run by a bunch of teenagers (yes i’m serious, I later found this out after continuing to email their leader) and apparently one of the group’s guys put a trojan into the program’s updates as a joke (yes i am serious). I found this out after emailing the head programmer for the program, and he said that he was sorry and it wouldn’t happen again (but common, that is just stupid). He even offered me a free professional version of the product for my troubles which I happily refused. I’m glad that AWC does not have ties to evonsoft anymore.
I just installed and ran, Advanced windows care 2 personal and lost all my icons in the task bar including avast. How do I get them back?
AWC has a restore feature.
AWC can put your startup items in a white list. Just do not use the automatic cleaning at the first time and do it manually, setting the white list.
To restore avast, repair your installation:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
Other thing, iobit is a serious company ![]()
Anyone know how to make Spyware Terminator NOT launch at startup? Every time I open it it adds itself to startup.
um…i have a suggested fix, but it is probably smart to wait for an avast! worker to give you a better answer or to confirm my suggestion.
i would suggest hit start, then run, then type msconfig in the run box and press enter. Hit startup services in the tabs on the window that pops up and uncheck anything that has spywareterminator in the command details. You may also need to hit the services tab on the msconfig screen and uncheck the Spyware Terminator Realtime shield, but you should definitely wait for an admin to confirm this before doing it.
I’m pretty sure Alwil will not give their input since Spyware Terminator is not their product. I am also pretty sure, the best place to ask that question is Spyware Terminator support forum if they have it. They should give the best possible advice on GPG’s question.
I used ST but gimme some problems and i said bye bye!!
I prefer use CBOClean and windows defender.
Unless you uncheck resident option, always there is a process in background, like AVG AS free, Ad-aware free…
I did that and I got it fixed now. Along with unchecking the Resident protection, I also had to uncheck Auto update and Scheduled scans.
- Set the service(s) to manual.
- Uncheck the autostart option into ST settings.
Thanks for the reply Tech, Not sure how I did it but after a couple re-starts things seem ok now.
