In much need of help...

OK. I’m new here, and I’m also new to computer virus, tech-speak and all the rest of that hoopla. So I apologise in advance for my complete lack of experience!

The thing is, my computer is suffering! I, currently, have Windows 2000 Pro, and recently, whenever I try to get online, I get a message after about 3 or so minutes telling me my computer needs to restart. My friend (who knows a hell of a lot more than I do about this) has been helping me research this, but no matter what I do, nothing seems to solve the problem. At first, we thought it might be the Sasser worm, so I downloaded a programme to get rid of that. But… it turns out it wasn’t. Then, I thought it could be a Blaster worm, and pretty much the same thing happened. So, I got avast from a friend, and some ad-blockers, installed them onto my computer and I’ve been able to get online since. But only when I stop the ad-blocker programme does my computer get the restart message (it’s very slow when I’m on it, you see).

Can anybody help me (she pleads, lol) identify the problem? Help is much appreciated ???

Click on the link in my signature and follow the steps there to make sure your system is clean and up-to-date. See if that solves the problem.

In addition you can also check the 2000 log files to see if they contain one or more errors. If so, use google and the Microsoft knowledgebase to solve them.
