In need of assistance: VBS:Malware-gen.

Overview:

I don’t remember the exact date of the infection but it feels like it was between the past 8-15 days.

Reocurring virus (VBS: Malware-Gen) is what seems to be a false update program. The program starts itself everytime I boot my computer. Once I click run, avast! does the alert. I’ve moved it to the chest a total of 7 times & deleted it a total of 4 times.

Location:

C:\Windows\System32

Full avast! description:

Virus has been detected!

Virus Description: VBS:Malware-gen

System Specs:

  • Computer type: Handmade [means its not a company computer like dell]
  • Windows XP SP3 with ALL updates applied.
  • Avast! 4.8 Pro.

Extras:

If I left anything out please tell me. I do have HiJackThis installed.

Hi Falkner,

A description can be found here: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99491.htm

You could download and update this program and do a full scan: http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html

Just the thing that seems to be working in this case:-
use flash drive disinfector.
it’s a small program. download it from here:

http://www.precisesecurity.com/tools-resources/adware-tools/flash-disinfector/

then run it after preferably turning off your antivirus product’s real-time protection. your screen will go blank for a moment which is normal. when it say ‘Done!’ your problem is solved. it may create a folder called autorun.inf on your pen drive which you shouldn’t delete as it will cause the virus to reappear,

polonus

Thanks for everything polonus! Worked like a charm ;D
