In their words: Experts weigh in on Mac vs. PC security

I think this says a lot:

“If you haphazardly visit every link and download every file sent to you in e-mail or posted to your social-networking pages, sooner or later you’re going to get nailed. Period. Platforms are passe. Apps are where it’s at.”

As I’ve said many times before, the only reason Windows is perceived as more unsecure is because it is attacked more often. And this is because there are millions more Windows computers than there are Mac computers. If the opposite were true, then you would see more Macs being attacked than Windows and Macs would then be perceived as more unsecure.

Attacks are done where the most harm can be implemented and in today’s world, that means the attacks are against Windows more so than Macs.

agreed, same with Linux

Thanks so much for the link Marc57. Great read. Windows has always been the target of talk where attacks are concerned as CharleyO stated. I’ve worked on and repaired many different systems, Mac’s and Linux are no exception. Just because you don’t hear about those type of things where Mac’s and as Logos stated Linux is concerned, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Trust me, it is.

Your Welcome.

No platform will ever be completely secure. The Mac obviously benefits from its small market share, although that is starting to be not so small when you consider that every iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad ships running OS X. There will obviously be a point when OS X becomes a target for attacks, it is just a question of when and not if.

Until that time, it is nice to have a OS with very few pieces of Malware.

I think the only thing iPhone OS and OS X have in common is that they run the same/similar kernel.

Just as Charley said, Mac benefits from its low market share, thus making more people use Windows than Mac…

Why do hackers/malware writers attack Mac if there are more people working on Windows?

Why do hackers/malware writers attack Mac if there are more people working on Windows?

that’s a good question you should ask the hackers ;D okay this said I suspect many hackers from doing it, not exactly for fun, but when it’s not out of a special interest (money etc…), just to prove to themselves and the spectators (the victims and the press), that it’s possible.

The reason Windows is perceived as more insecure is because for years MS made it really easy to take advantage of Windows. Windows was taken advantage of and came to be perceived as insecure.
