incoming mail brings system to a CRAWL

i notice when i am receiving an e-mail … and Avast is spinning (the “A” icon in the taskbar) that my system becomes unresponsive and i cannot click or do anything … anyone else experiencing this?

i am running XP Pro with 2 gigs of memory on a HP Laptop, Pentium4

If i left out any info, please let me know!

Probably the most important one, what is your email program ?

I don’t experience it and my system is no speed freak.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
What other security based software do you have that might also be scanning email (some firewalls do, etc.) ?

'DOH!

You think you put all the info you can think of, and i leave that little nugget of info out, eh? heheheh

i am using Outlook 2007. No other AV running that i can see.

Only other “security” type software that i keep running is PeerGuardian.

(THANKS for your help!)

Try unchecking the ‘Scan archived messages on open’ in the Customize, Scanner tab settings and also ‘Scan message bodies’ if enabled.

If you use your inbox for general storage that file could get very large so it is best to use it as more of a pending tray, once you have read and actioned the email move it to a more appropriate folder.

THANKS. “Archived Messages” was already unchecked … but “Message Bodies” was checked … so i unchecked it … let’s see how that does!

Again, THANKS!

No problem, welcome to the forums.
