Bonjour,
Bernadette
Well… it should be an English-only forum…

Sorry, I tought that we could do it in french to.
My sister installed Avast on her computer and there is always a red aign on her Avast blue icon and when she puts her mouse above it says: “Start resident shiels” She clicks but starting is not done. It had its activation key installed successfully. However, the software seems to function. It made a scan and quarantined 2 Trojan horses.
She has a Compaq Intel Celeron, 250 mg/RAm, Windows Mellenium.
Is the computer too old for Avast or is it just a configuration that has to be made?
Thank you for helping me!
Bernadette
Hello Bernadette,
Did you have any other antivirus products before Avast?
If so how were they removed?
It may be necessary to use the relevant uninstaller for it and then re-install avast
To re-install avast:
EDIT:It is probably a good idea to download the new installation before starting this
hope this helps,
-Scott-
She had already removed and reinstalled it. She had the AVG Antivirus and made a restart before installing Avast.
What about the previous AV?
was there any?
-Scott-
No other antivirus than Avast. No more previous antivirus.
odd…
Sorry, I’m at a loss then, maybe one of the more experienced people here could help.
-Scott-
First are they installing avast from an account with administrator privileges (essential) ?
Are the following services listed as started Automatically on the windows services list (windows Run and type services.msc): avast! Antivirus and avast! iAVS Control Service, see image1 ?
The other two in the image should be set to Manual as in the image.
If installed from an account with admin privileges and they are set to Automatic in Services - Then try this from the avast Program Settings (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Troubleshooting section and check the ‘Delay loading of avast! services after other system services,’ see image2 and reboot.
OK guys,
Her Avast Antivirus is working this morning. She has no sign on her icon and it says that it is active.
Thanks again!
Bernadette.
You’re welcome, you know what to look for if it happens again.
