Incomplete scan

Hv been using avast Pro with no problems 'til this:
I hv an automatically scheduled scan once a week, but in the last couple of weeks, it has not completed by the following morning. In the morning, the progress icon is still displaying in the system tray, but when I roll the mouse over the progress icon, it displays the prompt about scan in progress and 100% complete. If I right-click and select pause or stop, nothing happens. If I again right-click after that, I just get the option to stop the scan, but again nothing happens. I have to either restart the PC or manually end the avast process to get the program running again.

System:
AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+
A8N32-SLI Deluxe Socket 939
Win XP Pro (w/SP2)

Hopefully someone can help you soon. Perhaps one of the official avast team will post with help.

Were you logged off during the scan, or logged on all the time?

Please try to check the report file for the status - i.e. enable the creation of the report file for the task you are running; it would probably be best to let everything, even “OK files”, be included in the report. The resulting file will be rather huge - but when this happens again, you can check the end of the report file to see if the scan has really finished, or if it’s stuck somewhere…
This way, we’ll see if the problem is in the scanner itself, or if just the icon doesn’t report the status correctly.
Thanks.
