INCORRECT FUNCTION error when browsing a mapped drive

Avast Endpoint Protection Suite Ver: 8.0.1603
WIN2K7Pro 32/64-bit, WINXP. Unable to browse a mapped drive on a Windows 2K3 server using windows drive mapping or net use with the Avast soiftware installed and running on a desktop PC. The drive is mapped and shows such in response to a NET USE command. When attempting to browse the drive a INCORRECT FUNCTION error is returned. With the Avast software removed we are able to browse the subject drive. This only occurs with windows shares. Drive mapping and browsing works fine with Netware, Linux and SMB shares. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We always use IP addrees, and NOT DNS name, in our network shares, as it is far more reliable.

Also, do you have network discovery enabled on the clients?

Sincerely,

Thanks for the respone J.R. To be clear, everything functions correctly without the AVAST software installed. Does not matter if it is XP or WIN7 32/64 bit. In addition there are two workstations that function correctly with the AVAST software installed. Both of these machines receive the exact same policies that all of the other machines receive. This is very perplexing.

jkress,
We also see this same symptoms.
avast version 8.0.1603.
We’ve had this issues since I can remember. We just started using Avast last summer.
Ive just put up with it until now, but I have another department that had to go to AVG or something else because Avast was breaking their Mapped drives to MS servers. We are a Novell shop so, no Domain here.

To add to your description. Even though you get the error while going thru My Computer, you can completely browse the mapped drive using command prompt. You just cannot see any folders or files. I just mapped drive Y to a server, changed to drive y. created a folder called software, copied files to this folder. All from a windows 7 workstation.
From the Server, I can see everything.
From my Win7 computer mapping to that share, all I can see are empty directories.
I can’t even see the directories, but I know they are there as I can change into one, and I get an error that the path doesn’t exist if I typo the directory name.

Same story, if I uninstall Avast, I can see everything. When I install avast. everything is hidden again.

I just mapped a drive from my XP computer and I can see files.
It was on version 8.0.1490.
I run the update to 8.0.1603.
restarted, mapped drive (I always map via cmd prompt)
I can see files.

Anyone have a fix or a link on how to fix this?

In playing with this more today, I’m wondering if it’s a 64-bit issue. The XP I had that worked was XP, The windows 7 I was testing today worked, but were 32-bit. The second Win7 VM I’ve tested with gives me the same result as my production Win7 64-bit VM. We even went as far as disabling all functions of Avast, let the client sync, no luck. Disabled 3 Services (set to manual) and restarted. no luck. If I uninstall Avast, My drive mappings work.

Hoping someone has a suggestion or a solution would be nice as well.

Found a workaround buried in a Novell forum.
[QUOTE=glazzaro765;2314080]I found the workaround to be in the Novell Client properties → Advanced Settings → UNC Path Filter change from On to Off.
Don’t know if it will cause any other unanticipated problems, but it did fix my ability to connect to both Novell, Microsoft and Linux/Samba shares.
Hope that helps someone.
