Increase of 77.4 GB of Data Tested in one day with Avast Premier 2015

An update of Avast Premier 2015 occurred on 7-14-15. Following that update, on July 15th when checking my Scan History, I found the Amount of Data Tested increased from 41.9 GB to 119.3 GB, and has remained in that approximate range since that time. I don’t understand the sudden increase.

Volume/data size on drive?

I’m sorry - I am 72 years old with no computer savy - I can only answer your question by telling you what I did and what I discovered. THE CAPITALIZED WORDS ARE THOSE USED ON MY AVAST PREMIER PROGRAM. Without going into detail about dates, after a FULL SYSTEM SCAN had been completed of Local Drive C:, I checked my SCAN HISTORY, and discovered that from the previous day’s scan the AMOUNT OF DATA TESTED had increased from 41.9 GB to 119.3 GB, and the increased GB amount has remained in that range since that time.

Ok.

Suggest clicking My Computer>Select C:>Right-click C:>Select Properties. A new window will pop up.

How much of the drive is showing as used?
How much of the drive is showing as free?

Did the used part of the drive suddenly grow larger?

See attached below for example window:

Used space: 54.9 GB
Free space: 864 GB

This morning’s Avast scan shows - AMOUNT OF DATA TESTED - 120.2 GB.

Have you changed the default scan settings ?
I’m not entirely sure; what type of scan are you doing ?
Or is this just routine daily use of your computer and what avast scans ?

By default avast doesn’t scan all archives (only specific ones - 3 - ), if you change that setting to scan all archives, then the archive is unpacked and the contents scanned. So the scanned data if for all content extracted and scanned and not just the size of the archive.

By default avast doesn’t scan all files, if you change that to scan all files then you are going to get much more files scanned.

I checked my SETTINGS and found that apparently when Avast Premier 2015 recently updated its program on 7-14-15 some of my SETTINGS were changed, which I just now changed, and ran another scan. The AMOUNT OF DATA TESTED was reduced to 59.0 GB - that’s still an increase from 41.9, but certainly more reasonable. Thank you for your time and assistance - they truly are appreciated.

You’re welcome, though the settings should have been retained as the one I mentioned are the defaults.

Thankfully it is now back to reasonable levels.
