Indeo file & avast e-mail scanner

I’ve have requested the company I bought my game from to send me the file needed for the game to work on my computer. Unfortunately the file ends with .exe and avast! won’t allow it. This is very good, but how do I allow such files when I know the source they are from?

Thanks

I don’t think it is avast that doesn’t allow it but Outlook Express at a guess (if that is your email program)?

Avast should warn you about the file being suspicious , however it should block or delete ther file unless you tell it to, which brings you to DavidR’s suggestion ;).

Are you sure it is not your firewall which is blocking it? Or, like David said, your email client settings?

It might be both, but it is avast that flashes and give me options to block, delete or decline. The message passes through the firewall no problem. If it were avast blocking, how would I go about opening that file. Because when avast gives me the options, I choose open but the file does not open. My e-mail client is Microsoft Outlook. Thanks

So it’s infected… If you choose ‘ok’ the message and the infected file will remain in the email.
Can you post a screenshot of the message? Thanks.

Here is the screenshot, I don’t know if I have copied it correctly:

Vuyo, as we imagined, this is due to the Heuristic module of Internet Mail provider (or Outlook plugin) of avast.
You can disable the Heuristics to receive the mail (or disabling specific options of heuristic. In the help file there is a full explanation of the terms and concepts used).
But, if you click ‘CONTINUE’, won’t you receive the email?

Yes, I receive the e-mail. But it won’t allow the .exe file to be run. I wanted to know what to do when it is a file from a source that I trust. Thank you very much for your assistance.

It is just a warning - so, if you press Continue, avast! lets the file be delivered. It is not true that it won’t allow the .exe file to be run - avast! doesn’t have anything to do with it. If you really cannot run the attachment, I suggest to check the settings of your e-mail client - maybe it is preventing you from starting the file.

Check your email settings as I suggested in my previous post, was/is the box I indicated ticked?

If it is ticked OE won’t let you save it to the HDD, let alone run it!
