A friend has a Web site that was hacked. It’s fixed now and when I click on his URL he sent in an email, the site loads. However, when I click on the link in my Favorites, either in IE or Firefox, I get redirected to Russian sites: Wismart.ru from IE and Systemscanner.ru from Firefox. I overwrote my existing links in Favorites after a successful login and they work. But - and here’s the puzzle - if I type the URL into the IE cell, I’m still redirected to Russian sites. I’ve run the latest version of Internet Security and come up clean. Any suggestions?

:
Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware from http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html
install, update and a quick scan…then attach the log generated after the scan.
I suggest:
- Clean your temporary files.
- Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
- Use Comodo Cleaning Essentials (CCE), or MBAM, or SUPERantispyware to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, it is better and safer to send the infected file(s) to quarantine (Chest), rather than simply deleting them.
- Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
- Read these instructions and provide more info with the logs generated. But, please, do NOT post there, open a NEW thread for your specific problem and help us to help you.
- Clean your Hosts file (replacing it) with HostsMan tool.
- Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
- Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
- Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

To remove the redirection in Firefox, follow instructions I posted here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=87103.msg700939#msg700939
To fix the problem in IE, right click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop, go to “Properties”, click the “Advanced” tab and then click the “Reset” button which will restore IE defaults.
