Infected files - Could they be affecting Windows Vista Updates?

Hiya

Am hoping for some help (I am not very technically minded!)

I have been having problems installign the new version on iTunes which I need for me new ipod touch. I have been getting assistance on the apple support forums where I was advised the problem could be due to my Microsoft updates. I checked the history and these are failing with error code 643.

I was then advised to do an Avast scan which came up with the following:

CoreSrv.dll
HostIE.dll
HostOE.dll
SeekmoSA.exe
SeekmoSAAX.dll
SeekmoSAHook.dll
Srv.exe
Toolbar.dll

These files are all located on my C drive under Program Files and were last changed on 26/11/2007. The virus is the same on all of them:

Win32:adware-gen [adw]

I searched the web for a fix on this and found some advise to download the program

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

This found the infected files and deleted them

I thought this might fix the download issue but I’m still getting the error

Is there something I can do in Avast to resolve this?

Thanks

Are you sure? did you click the button “Remove Selected” after scan?
If not, update MBAM and do a new scan, and click the button, this will move the infections to quarantine

I also recomend trying SAS http://filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/

Thanks for your interest and help - This is slowly driving me insane, it’s been a week now!!

I followed instructions for Malwarebytes which gave me the option to delete files. I did this and then re-ran the scan and no file threats were detected - I’m assuming this means they’re no longer on the PC?

I am on the work PC at the moment so will give your suggestions a go when I get home - I’ll also try and post the scan log.

Thanks again for your help
