Infected with etpsoprc.ru/a/ and autorun.inf

Hi All,

Please kindly help me with this problem. Recently My usb flash drives were infected at work. All the folders inside were changed to links. I didn’t know what happened so I put the usb drives into my personal laptop to see what was wrong. Avast starts notifying autorun.inf file infected and keeps removing but the infection keeps returning so the it keeps notifying. I removed the USB drive and when I restart my laptop, Avast promps 2 times that there is a web malware etpsoprc.ru/a/.

I think that my usb drives were infected with some autorun virus and then infected my laptop. Avast full system scan doesn’t detect anything and I also did boot time scan which didn’t detect anything. I’ve tried googling for solutions but I couldn’t understand all the steps that I find on some webpages. It involves changing the attribute of the drives so that the files are not hidden.

Appreciate it if someone could help me on here. FYI, I’m using Windows 8 and this has also prevented me from properly using the CMD Prompt etc.

Please attach your logs. (AdwCleaner, MBAM and OTL…!!)

Hi before you run the logs we will need to clean the USB first

Download McShield to your desktop and install
It will initially run a scan and show the result as a toaster by the system clock
Then in the control centre select scanner and tick unhide items on flash drives

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/mcshield%20unhide.JPG

Plug in the drive and McShield will start a scan

Then get the log which will be here :

Start > all programs > MCShield > logs > all scans

And post that

Then run the other scans

Hi essexboy,

I’m having a lame problem… I can’t seem to find the logs. I’ve used search and looked at it under the MCShield folder as well. Can you kindly tell me how to look for it for Windows 8?

i dont have win8 but try this…

Start > search > %programdata% > enter > MCShield > All scans

or

%programdata%\MCShield\

Windows 8 is driving me nuts… can’t locate the mcshield logs at all…

Hi guys,

All I can find under %programdata%\MCShield\

is lastscan and allscans txt files. Are these the log files? I’ve attached them here.

OK could you now continue to the OTL scan please

Hi essexboy,

The alerts seemed to have ceased! ;D

I’ve attached the log of the scan after reboot.

I have another USB drive that i need to disinfect. How do i do that? Can I plug it in and scan with MCShield?

Yes use McShield and it should prevent this happening again

Let me know when you are happy and we will tidy up

Hi essexboy,

I’ve scanned and disinfected my other usb drive with MCShield. I’ve attached the log.

However, I found out that there are weird folders left in the thumbdrive and the autorun.inf became autorun.inf.vir. Please see attached screen shot. Should i delete them?

And how do we tidy up? Thanks in advance!

Numbers 1,2,3 and 7 in that screenshot need deleting as they hold the malware files that infected you along with the autorun

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run AdwCleaner and select uninstall

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

Clear Restore Points

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
[*]Microsoft Windows Update
