Thanks again Essexboy for your continued help and advice…
I installed Revo, but it didn’t list the un-ticked ‘waisutwaocnt.exe’ file in the auto-run section, then I tried CCleaner that I use frequently on this PC and it was listed, and then deleted it.I had forgotten all about this feature of Ccleaner.
Ran you OTL batch, this process went fine, but I misspelled the ‘run’ command for ‘Combofix’ removal (unistall instead of uninstall) and combofix launched into the scan mode again, since I can’t stop the process I let it run and at near the end of the process, the PC suddenly crashed into blue screen and reboot, the ‘event-viewer’ report was the same Kernel-power 41 error I’ve been getting for a couple of weeks (during sleep mode)but the system booted back up fine and seems to be working fine so far. regarding this issue I still need to open-up this pc to re-seat all the cards and mem chips, clean-up etc…but…
After correcting the mistake "combofix ’ was “removed successfully”
Ran OTL ‘clean’ and removed everything, including a couple of the log files saved in the same desktop Dir. needed to reboot manually though, probably 'cause it was running on Avast sandbox?
Coincidentally last nite I upgraded Java and Installed MS-Explorer9, maybe E9 upgrade will cure another weird behavior of late, when sometimes Win-Explorer stopped working and warn that it needs to Re-start again, seems to be working fine right now…
Created new ‘clean restore point’ and deleted the old ones…
Installed FireFox ‘no script’ plugin again, but it’s a pain to ‘customize’ it :-\
I use MBAM manually. but will set a auto-scan schedule to be sure…
I heard/knew of FileHippo updater software (and others) but was always hesitant to allow any of them to scan and send results out, Do you think is safe?
Edit: W7 reports that both Avast and Defender anti-spyware are running, and then warn of ‘performance’ issues if both are running, should I disable ‘Defender’ then? and if so how?
