Info on JS: Downloader -FT [Trj]?

Hey all

Twice tonight I had this pop up while reading the news online. Once at a link at the Drudge Report, and once at Breitbart.

The Avast! warning box came up and said it had blocked a connection and stopped malware from entering my PC.

The info displayed by the Avast! warning box was:

JS: Downloader-FT [Trj]
Trojan Horse
from: hXXp://piknikvik.com/dXcXmXnts/?s=57 (Capital X’s added by me)

Over the last two months I’ve come across these JS: Downloader’s while online several times. I ran complete Avast W/archives in safe mode and malwarebytes full scan. Neither came up with anything, which is the case every time I get this. I’m pretty sure my system is secure. What I would really like to know is some information on these. I couldn’t really find any good info on them online. Here’s what I’m curious about:

1.)Is my system secure if I aborted the connection, per Avast!'s request and ran those complete scans?
2.) What in the h*ll are these, and why do I keep encountering them?
3.) How come I only get this alert when browsing with Firefox, but NEVER with IE, although I visit the same sites with both?
4.)Any other info you guys may think is pertinent.

Thanks again for any help you Avast! Jedi’s may be able to provide,
Philo

Sigh, so many views, so few responses…

Hi there, impatient?
I’m not real expert at web-malware diagnosis, but I loaded the site, and sure enough, the webshield pooped up, but for me it occurred both in Firefox and IE (version8 ).
The webshield aborted the connection for you in Firefox, I am not sure why it did not affect IE in this way. The only thing I can think is that you haves some setting in IE wound up tight …restricted/untrusted site - type setting, that would automatically block whatever was on that page so the webshield didn’t see it.
Given that you scanned following this event, I would estimate you are probably clean.
Generally there is no need to include archives in a scan. Not often, anyway.

LOL Impatient? yes, often.
I too use IE 8, I will have to check the settings. Unless they got changed, they should be set to whatever the “recommended” settings are.

Thanks for the reply. I can take a breath now. ;D
