INI file Modificication

I keep having a message pop up that says INI File Modification can anybody help me out with this and how do I fix it. I keep having to click yes or no and it is very frustrating

If you expand the “More info” button - what process name does it show?
What is the exact build of avast! you have installed? (the latest - 4.8.1335?)

This is the message I get when it says more information

C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe

What’s the build number of your avast?

sorry where would I find that am new to this system I am pretty sure it is the one you stated but can double check

it is the one you stated i found it

Hmm, I’m afraid I don’t have any explanation for that… this problem appeared when the self-defense was first introduced in March 2008, but it was fixed in the next update in May 2008. Since then, this warning should only appear if you’re editing the .ini file with Notepad, applications like Google Desktop should be denied access automatically, without any warnings…

You can disable self-defense completely (in avast! settings / Troubleshooting page), but that’s certainly not a recommended option… Maybe you can check if you have the latest version of Google Desktop, but I’m not sure if they ever fixed the unnecessary write access…

hmmm thanks for the help hopefully it will work itself out. My coworker said it wasn’t doing this last week when he used the computer but just started for me on tuesday so not sure what I did exactly, thanks again for the help

Btw, what operating system do you use?
