ini file question

How close is the ini file related to the gui?

Does a change in the ini reflect a corresponding Change in the gui, and vise versa? And which one takes precedent?

For example is it possible to have updates set in the ini to one setting and have a different setting in the gui?

Not always, as many entries that you can change or add to the .ini file don’t have a corresponding function in the gui.

I would think that if there is a corresponding function in the gui changing the .ini should change the gui setting. I have seen that where the Troubleshooting, delay loading of avast services…etc. can be changed in the .ini and it also changes the setting in the gui.

The easy way to try it is to such it and see change the setting in the .ini and see if it is reflected in the gui.

Thanks DavidR. I was just grasping at straws in hopes that may be another users update problem. :frowning:

I have seen and contributed to that topic and I can’t see what is going on, especially with no firewall (which even with a hardware router/firewall if they have one) I feel is simply asking for trouble.

It may be that something it blocking avast in some way.

Sometimes a reboot is needed.
So, let’s make a scenario: you change the ini file. Start rebooting… some settings could be saved by the GUI into the ini file… the ini file is changed… the computer reboots with the old settings.
Better will be: turn of the residents, change the ini, reboot (Win 98) or restart the residents (Win XP/Vista).

Thanks guys.

DavidR, I agree. The days of a firewall not really being nesseccary on dialup are long gone.

Tech, if I read you right, the ini takes precedent. It may be possible that the info didn’t get passed to the ini.

I would say that if you’re with the GUI opened, it has the priority, saving the changes when closed.
