Insert Note in Netscape 7.2 mail

I have the insert note boxes checked. I’ve tried re-installing a few times of the entire program. Inserting the note is 1# reason I’m using Avast. I need my mail marked clean. What else can I try? Using the Netscape mail client 7.2

Have you already checked the headers of the mail?

If avast! is sucessfully scanning your email, then you should be able to insert clean note.

Yes, I’ve sent out test mails to myself. No note is stamped on the test. Yes both scanning of mail is checked and insert note boxes are checked on the POP, SMTP, IMAP tabs.

I’m not sure of what format Netscape mail uses (I have never used it) and or there may be something stopping the text being edited.

I think there was something in the forums about inserting notes when rtf (rich text format) was the format used, this was about MS Outlook, perhaps the same might be true for Netscape Mail? A search of the forums for ‘Outpost’ and ‘clean message’ (without the quotes) might return some info.

The Netscape Mail its the Mozilla Mail, and Mozilla Mail its Thunderbird…

My laptop has Win2k with Netscape Mail. The feature works perfectly. Desktop is XP -SR2. Is there any way to test that attachments are being scanned if the insert feature is broken, I could deal with just that for now? I have BlackICE application protection. Turned off it still didn’t add the note.

You can view the resident provider screen for Internet Mail and watch the Last Scanned: and Scanned Count: when you are downloading emails and see it change. You could also send yourself the eicar test as an attachment.

Avast is not just forgetting to insert notes. Avast is not scanning file attachments in Netscape 7.2 Mail clients on WinXP SR2 platform. It’s does detect the EICAR when I right click scan the file.

What kind of e-mail do you use? POP3 or IMAP? SSL maybe?

POP3, SMTP

Strange… is the status of the Internet Mail provider correct? (I mean, is it “running”?)

Status? I’m able to send and recieve mail. Mailed myself the Eicar, was NOT scanned.

Is your POP3 mail server of the type “mail.myisp.com”?

Does it connect to the mail server on port 110?

Are you using a special mail screening program?

Oh, sorry - I mean the status displayed when you open the On-Access Scanner control panel (by clicking on the avast! blue tray icon), click on “Details… >>” if it’s not already expanded and then select the Internet Mail provider.
In the top part of the window, it should say something like “The provider is currently running.”

pop3.isp.netscape.com port 110 > Provider running. Yes

I’ve given up on this. Went back to F-Prot to protect my 3 home computers and a work laptop. Paid for it. F-Prot has no insert note feature. Price for 5 comps was decent. All honesty I think Avast is a great program. Microsoft has Avast listed as AV provider. I do a decent amount of E-mail, I really need e-mail scanning and a note insert. If someone is able to make it work with Netscape 7.2 e-mail client on Windows XPSR2 platform again, could you post. I like the old school look feel of my Netscape mail, hate Outlook, don’t like to change after years of using a mail client.

About the clean notes into the message body, can you try ‘Settings’ on my signature?
UseAlternateRtfSyncing value under [MailScanner] section:

Another mechanism for inserting notes into the body of emails is RtfSyncing is concerned with Rich Text Format. In emails, the user typically save both Rich text (HTML) and plain form of message. When you modify one type of message, RTFSync is the right function to synchronize text of message to the second form. Disable = 0.

See screenshot of settings here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=9514

Don’t forget that you will not see the inserted note in the ‘Sent Items’ folder of your mail program,
because avast adds the note after the mail leaves the mail program.
