Inserting the NOTE into a mail body

Are the following problems on JP windows only ?

On my case :

OS : Win XP Home SP2 (Japanese)
CPU : Pentium 3 ( 1GHz )
Programs in resident
: Sygate 5.5 (Build 2710) / avast! 4 (Build 4.1.418) / ewido (free) / IECookiesView
/ SpywareBlaster / SpywareGuard / Spybot(Immunize, SDHelper, TeaTimer)

Last week end, I wanted to start Mail Protection Wizard (MPW) with some reasons.
However it wasn’t on START menu of OS.
I am sure it was on the menu when the first installing avast! onto Win XP SP1.
So I re-installed avast! …

  1. Un-installed avast! from the setup program, then rebooted.
  2. Downloaded and installed the newest avast!, then rebooted the computer and updated the program & vps.
  3. Ran the “vdd2.reg” because OS is XP SP2.
( During installing and uninstalling avast!, SpyBot wasn’t in resident. )

MPW came back on the START menu of OS after re-installing avast!.
Then I made sure of configuration ( avast! mail provider, mailer … )

A test mail was sent to my e-mail address from another mine.
But both of Outlook and Internet mail providers didn’t insert the note into the mail body.

Following the above, a test mail with eicar.zip was sent.
Both of mail providers didn’t detect eicar.

The case of my friend :

My friend is using avast! on Win XP SP2 in Japanese, too.
Although his MPW wasn’t on START menu, it was came back after re-installing avast!.
On his case, avast! inserts the NOTE into a mail body for OE6 and Thunderbird 0.8, but he has character transformation problems on the NOTE in Thunderbird. The meaning is that JP characters are not displayed correctly.

Iso-G, I had troubles with disappering MPW link in the past
But I have no troubles with inserting notes. Are you sure avast! is properly installed in that system and ashMaiSv.exe is running?

Hello Technical
Thank you very much for your reply.

I had troubles with disappering MPW link in the past

Really. :-
But I feel relieved, because it is not depending on language.
I hope ALWIL team finds a solution.

Are you sure avast! is properly installed in that system and ashMaiSv.exe is running?

I made sure of running of ashMaiSv.exe on the task manager’s “process”. I believe the installation was successful. Standard Sheild found eicar after the above test.

I will make sure of inserting note after a recovery, this week end or later.

Thank you very much, Technical.

Iso, if I remember correctly, there were some troubles on recognizing HTML codes of some email clients. For instance, in the same computer, some email clients put the note and others not ::slight_smile:
If you can, try to use the txt format first and test more than one email program.

Do you see the X-Antivirus line in the email headers?

Sorry my reply is so late.

The mail headers don’t have the X-Antivirus line.

I haven’t yet recovered my computer.
After recovering, I will report the result here.

Thank you.

Just that your emails are not being scanned at all :-
Or, on contrary, full Microsoft Outlook does not use X-Antivirus headers like Internet Mail provider ::slight_smile:
Can anybody that uses Microsoft Outlook (not Express) see if the emails have these headers?

Problem was fixed by 4.5 BETA !

avast! 4.5 beta inserted them into a mail header:

X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0443-3, 2004/10/22), Inbound message
X-Antivirus-Status: Clean

also the note by avast! was come back !
Thank you very much.

PS
It was success to switch SUI to skinless, and back to UI with a skin by setting.

Iso-G, remember that a lot of settings into avast4.ini file have changed…
Maybe it will be useful to update your japanese webpage

Thank you very much, Technical.

I will update “Understanding avast4.ini file” in Japanese after official releasing avast! 4.5.
I have already been preparing it. ;D

And to update them, I have to read and translate the updated help.chm. ;D

The headers are correctly added in Outlook, but the Avast only “stamps” the “clean” message in the message body of HTML messages. Plain text messages are not stamped inbound or outbound. Maybe I’d better try the beta 4.5?

Seems a bug :frowning:
Maybe someone from Alwil could say something.
I suggest you to update to 4.5. It won’t hurts
Can you post the results? If they were not good, maybe open a thread into the new board (4.5 Beta) and post there this problem
