[INSTALL] files corrupted

Hello everybody,

I have Avast! for Home installed since several months and frequently update it (VPS & program) from avast website. Never experienced problems until now.

After my last (complete) update, everything got wrong (program main “.exe” disappeared or was unfoundable) ; I tried to uninstall-reinstall the entire program, this is impossible … my computer now runs without virus protection.

What I did in order :

  1. dowload the last complete version from avast website
  2. uninstall my current version from XP program uninstall interface
  3. reboot
  4. verify in \Program Files that nothing subsisted (surprise ==> a file named Avast remained, seeming to be empty, but refusing any access when I attempted to delete it)
  5. reboot on safe mode & open uninstall interface (nothing to delete) - the \Program Files\Avast still appears, unaccessible
  6. tried to install latest version (failed ==> files corrupted ??? , see log content infra)
  7. downloaded and run Avast uninstall tool
  8. re-downloaded the last version and retried all above ==> failed
  9. used Ad-aware, Spybot, Clamwin-antivirus, Rapid blaster killer, hijackthis ==> one virus found, suppose it was treated but still impossible to install Avast!

BUT the version available (french) still appears to be the corrupted one.

Can you fix it as soon as possible and email me when available for download ?

All language versions were updated to the latest version, French being no exception.
Did you perform those 3 steps, as described in the FAQ entry?

Hi Igor,

I did everything as described in FAQ

A folder called “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast” still remains on my PC, impossible to open or delete it even using the Avast uninstall tool (that seems to achieve its job properly).

And … I still get the message of corrupted files when trying to install either Eng. or Fr. version downloaded from your website.

I suppose that I now have to look for another anti-virus software ?

You could try removing it using unlocker http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

I could not delete the folder but move it away and reinstall Avast
