I had slow pc issues this morning and suspected it was Avast (it was disabled and the interface wasn’t responsive). I attempted to uninstall it, but it froze at “replacing files,” so I rebooted and tried again. Same. The program icon was there but the file size was 0, so I tried installing a fresh FREE version; however, it keeps getting hung up on "aswboot.exe and makes my pc run crazy slow. I’m AV-less at the moment. Please help. Thank you in advance.
did you try removing it using avast removal tool?
is any previous used AV (non avast) fully removed using that vendors removal tool?

I did try it using the removal tool, which is what is getting hung up. I will try your links and let you know if your suggestions work. Thank you!

I ran a successful uninstall of Avast from safe mode today. No other antivirus software was installed. Tried to install Avast fresh again and got hung up at aswboot.exe again. Not sure if I needed to wait longer or what, but after 30 minutes and everything else locked up, I rebooted and uninstalled it again. Attaching scan files here. Thank you for your help.
Oh, and I tried to install some Window updates today just before all this and that stuck too. I cancelled it. Not sure if that’s relevant.
Nothing readily apparent, after this fix could you temporarily uninstall Spybot and then try a re-install of avast

I figured it out and it wasn’t an Avast issue at all. I ran a check disk and after it mended a few things, Avast installed perfectly. Thank you so much for your help!! All the best!
